About me

I live in Charlotte and my working studio is in Concord at Clearwater Artist Studios. I have a degree in fine arts at the University of Tennessee. I have a teaching Experience at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina , Fountain City Art Center and Knoxville Arts and Crafts  Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.  I also enjoy teaching in more private settings in my studio at Clearwater Artist Studios.

The making of art, to me, is about recognizing  a feeling about the subject. I don't care why an image speaks to me.  I only want to listen to it and be available to do what it tells me.  This is a concept, but not always easy to follow.  So many noises are in one's head that have nothing to do with the work at hand. I tell myself to shut up and listen.

I work mainly in oils and acrylics in the figurative genre,  with a free and expressive style.

In 2010, I was commissioned to paint an image of Charlotte which is used by American Express in sticker decals in Charlotte area businesses.

In 2012, Cabarrus Arts Council purchased my painting "Mill House"  which was presented at the Concord on Canvas auction. It is now a part of their permanent collection.
